Practitioners: Nick Johnson
Acupuncture treatment involves the insertion and manipulation of very fine needles into various points on the body for pain relief or therapeutic reasons.
Acupuncture originated in and has been practised in the Far-East for over 3000 years, making it the oldest recorded forms of medicine!
There is increasing scientific evidence to support the effects of acupuncture. Various research studies – including those approved by the National Institute of Clinical Excellence – have shown that acupuncture treatment stimulates the production of Endorphins (natural-pain relieving chemicals) in the brain. These enable the body to self-heal and naturally relieve pain.
What should I expect?
Unsurprisingly, this is the most common question asked by patients when needles are used! Our therapists are trained to maintain the strictest hygiene levels and will only use pre-sterilised, disposable needles.
When inserted the fine needles give rise to a sensation which should only be a temporary mild discomfort at the most.
At times a more intense sensation is experienced. This is thought to be a positive indicator of the movement of energy at the acupuncture point, and is nothing to worry about.
