Lymphatic Drainage
Gentle massage and reflexology that stimulate the lymphatic system to reduce swelling and fluid build-up.
How Lymphatic Drainage Can Help
- Lymphoedema
- Oedema & fluid retention
- Arthritis
- Fibromyalgia
- Sinus problems
- Eczema
- Migraines & headaches
- Chronic fatigue & ME
Lymphatic drainage treatments stimulate the lymphatic system — the body’s natural drainage network — to aid the movement of lymph fluid and relieve build-up. At the Fairlee Wellbeing Centre we offer two complementary approaches.
What is Reflexology Lymphatic Drainage (RLD)?
Reflexology Lymphatic Drainage is an award-winning reflexology technique that focuses on activating the lymphatic reflexes on the feet. Rather than working directly on the affected area, the therapist works precise reflex points to encourage a stimulating effect on the lymphatic system throughout the whole body.
What is lymphatic drainage massage?
Lymphatic drainage massage works across the body itself, using light, rhythmic strokes that follow the direction of lymph flow. The aim is the same: to stimulate the lymphatic system, support the movement of fluid and relieve congestion and build-up.
Who can lymphatic drainage help?
Both approaches aim to provide relief from lymphoedema — a condition that causes swelling in the body’s tissues. Research suggests that breast cancer survivors living with lymphoedema are more likely to suffer psychological and emotional difficulties, to be more disabled, and to experience a poorer quality of life than survivors without the condition — which is why gentle, effective relief matters so much.
Alongside lymphoedema support, lymphatic drainage can also be useful for conditions such as:
- Arthritis
- Fibromyalgia
- Asthma
- Sinus problems
- Eczema
- Migraines and headaches
- Chronic fatigue and ME
- Oedema and fluid retention
What to expect at your appointment
Your first session begins with a conversation about your health, your symptoms and what you would like the treatment to achieve, so your therapist can choose the right approach — foot-focused RLD, body-focused massage, or a combination.
The treatment itself is remarkably gentle. Lymphatic work uses far lighter pressure than a conventional massage, because the lymphatic vessels sit close to the surface of the skin. Most clients find it deeply soothing, and some notice changes — such as reduced puffiness or lighter-feeling limbs — soon after treatment.
Afterwards, drink plenty of water to support the body as it processes and moves fluid. For ongoing conditions such as lymphoedema, a regular course of treatments usually gives the best results; your therapist will recommend a sensible plan based on how you respond.
What Clients Say About Our Lymphatic Drainage
“Nick Johnson is amazing at acupuncture and massage. He has fixed me countless times and is worth seeing for maintenance too and stopping niggles becoming something bigger. The price is very reasonable and the treatment rooms are great. Friendly and helpful staff upstairs in the Pharmacy too. Highly recommend.”— tommc7
“I telephoned Fairlee and got amazing help from all and Nick Johnson has transformed my life. After many years of pain from too much back surgery and being near crippled, his combination of acupuncture and physio has done so much more than a spinal cord stimulator (now removed), pills and all other medical treatments. I now walk straight. The Team at Fairlee are all very friendly and helpful.”— David Wittich
“He identified all the 'knots' on my back and neck and worked on them for 45 minutes of deep tissue massage followed by acupuncture. Last night was the first night I slept. Today I am sore, but no migraine. Can't thank him enough. He knows exactly what he is doing and he works with the patient. Real gem in South West London.”— Evi Sif
