Acupuncture

Fine-needle acupuncture to relieve pain, ease stress and support fertility — an ancient therapy backed by modern research.

How Acupuncture Can Help

  • Back & neck pain
  • Nerve pain
  • Sports injuries
  • Repetitive strain injuries
  • Joint pain & frozen shoulder
  • Muscle & ligament problems
  • Fertility & IVF support

Acupuncture involves the insertion and gentle manipulation of very fine needles at specific points on the body, either to relieve pain or for wider therapeutic benefit. Practised across the Far East for more than 3,000 years, it is one of the oldest recorded forms of medicine — and it remains one of the most widely used complementary therapies in the world today.

There is growing scientific evidence to support its effects. Research studies — including work recognised by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence — have shown that acupuncture stimulates the production of endorphins, the brain’s natural pain-relieving chemicals. These help the body to self-heal and relieve pain naturally, without medication.

What can acupuncture help with?

Acupuncture can help you overcome and manage a wide range of symptoms and conditions, including:

  • Back and neck pain
  • Nerve pain
  • Sports injuries
  • Repetitive strain injuries
  • Muscle and ligament problems
  • Joint pain and frozen shoulder
  • Fertility problems and IVF support

If you are unsure whether acupuncture is right for your particular condition, our practitioners will be happy to advise before you commit to a course of treatment.

What should I expect at my appointment?

Understandably, this is the question we hear most often when needles are involved. Rest assured: our therapists are trained to maintain the strictest hygiene standards and only ever use pre-sterilised, single-use disposable needles.

When a needle is inserted you will feel a brief sensation — at most a temporary, mild discomfort. Occasionally a more intense sensation is felt at the acupuncture point. This is considered a positive sign of energy moving at that point, and is nothing to worry about.

Your first appointment includes a full consultation, so your practitioner can understand your medical history, your symptoms and your goals before tailoring the treatment to you. Follow-up sessions are shorter and focus on your ongoing treatment plan.

Health insurance and cash plans

Our acupuncturists are approved by AXA and Cigna. If you are covered by another health insurance or cash plan provider, your sessions may still be eligible — contact us and we will do our best to help you check your cover.

What Clients Say About Our Acupuncture

Rated 4.7 on Google

“Nick Johnson is amazing at acupuncture and massage. He has fixed me countless times and is worth seeing for maintenance too and stopping niggles becoming something bigger. The price is very reasonable and the treatment rooms are great. Friendly and helpful staff upstairs in the Pharmacy too. Highly recommend.”

“I telephoned Fairlee and got amazing help from all and Nick Johnson has transformed my life. After many years of pain from too much back surgery and being near crippled, his combination of acupuncture and physio has done so much more than a spinal cord stimulator (now removed), pills and all other medical treatments. I now walk straight. The Team at Fairlee are all very friendly and helpful.”

“Visit to see Mark for acupuncture and he is excellent. Definitely recommend!”
