What is Tui Na Massage?
Tui Na massage is a full body-work healing process, relatively similar to acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine.
It is based on the principle that the body contains a network of meridians running through it consisting of 12 pairs – one of the pair of medians is one the right hand site and it’s corresponding partner can be found of the left. The network is completed by 2 unpaired meridians encircling an individual’s head down the middle of the body.
These meridians are more akin to key energy pathways rather than specific physical structures.
Located at uneven distances along these meridians are certain points (i.e. the “acu” pressure points that are used in acupuncture). Here, stimuli such as pressure, needles and/or heat can impact the energy flows through each meridian, which can often present itself at different points from where the initial stimulus is applied. The problem arises when the flow of energy through the body is interrupted, and when this happens the imbalance can have numerous negative effects including pain, stiffness and ill health.
Tui Na massage represents an effective technique of developing and maintaining the body’s energy balance. Although at first it may be to be an extensive workout of soft tissues and joints, an expert masseuse goes much deeper than this, concentrating on each meridian pairing as well as selected acu-pressure points to create the desired effect, which is specifically tailored to the requirements of the recipient of the massage.
